AIRPORT NAME

Los Cabos International Airport; code SJD.

LOCATION

13 KM (8 MILES) north of San José; 48 km (29 miles ) northeast of Cabo San Lucas.

FACILITIES

Although recently renovated and expanded the SID airport is at present undergoing yet another refurbishing made necessary by the significant increase in air traffic to the destination. It is home to all Alaska Airlines and charter flights. Both facilities have a restaurant, several snack bars and bars, various shops selling resort apparel, handicrafts, bottled liquor, sundries. There are numerous car rental agencies at both terminals.

Getting Around

From the airport, frequent van transfers are available at reasonable rates. Rental cars are available at the airport at many hotels. Note: Booths located in the original terminal between the Immigration and Customs are timeshare sales kiosks. This is NOT where you arrange for airport transfers. Bypass these booths and proceed outside Customs to the "taxi" booth.

• Airport to San José del Cabo area: $ 7 US per person.

• Airport to the Corridor or Cabo San Lucas area: $10 US per person.

To get around Los Cabos, taxis are plentiful. Interestingly, two different unions control all taxis in Los Cabos; red & yellow cabs are from San José; blue/black or green/gray cabs are from Cabo San Lucas.vehicles are usually large American Vans and sedans. RATES ARE EXPENSIVE¡. Between Cabo and San José the fare is $20 US per vehicle each way.

For travelers on a budget, there is hourly bus service between San José and Cabo San Lucas via the Flecha Verde and Estrella de Oro bus line. Brand new service via Subsur Cabo (using deluxe blue and orange painted buses) is a welcome addition. Buses depart from each city´s main bus terminal, and the trip takes about 35 minutes. These is also hotel shuttle service between the Corridor and Cabo San Lucas by hotel chains with sister hotels in each region.

If you plan to travel frequently between the two towns, renting a car is recommended, the highway connecting San José and Cabo San Lucas has been widened to four lanes. Than is has improved road safety and shortened travel time travel time through the the corridor region.
